We sought your opinions on Cristian Romero and whether his lack of discipline is a hindrance to his role as Tottenham captain.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Stuart: Romero is an excellent defender, but he shouldn’t be wearing the captain’s armband as he doesn’t set a good standard for younger players.

Edward: His disciplinary issues are concerning. I doubted his captaincy suitability from the start, and it seems I was right. Micky van de Ven would be a much better option.

Jonesey: Romero should not have received the captaincy in the first place, but that’s a decision for the summer. Despite his strengths, he makes too many mistakes while building from the back, leading to goals conceded, and he frequently risks bookings.

JS: Romero plays with fire and enthusiasm. We could use ten more players like him this season. Our captain demonstrates that he cares.

Sean: Just because he’s scored a few impressive goals doesn’t mean he’s fit to be captain. His disciplinary record is unacceptable. Micky van de Ven would make a better captain.

Steve: Similar to Dele Alli, we don’t want to lose Romero’s grit and aggression, as that is part of his character. However, the captain must carry an additional level of responsibility. We had just fought back into the game when he needed to maintain his composure.

Paul: Romero is a liability and should be stripped of the captaincy. I’d consider accepting a decent offer for him in January. Van de Ven should take over as captain.

Ellington: As our captain, Romero must set a better example. He accounts for 20% of our bookings this season. This is simply unacceptable; he needs to improve, or we should look for a new captain.
