Is tonight’s Europa League match against Roma a “free hit” for new Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy?
The French coach will be leading his second game for Celtic and his first European match as the Italian side comes to Parkhead.
Currently, Celtic sits 21st in the Europa League standings, just three positions away from the play-off spots, with a total of seven points from five matches.
Nancy faced criticism for shifting to a back three during Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Hearts, merely three days after his arrival in Scotland.
“This is one of the key questions surrounding Wilfried Nancy,” noted Herald football writer Stephen McGowan on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast.
“It revolves around his flexibility and readiness to adapt and change. He is one of those modern coaches who has a philosophy, a concept, and a formation he sticks to.”
“It surprised many when he came in with only two training sessions under his belt and altered the system so drastically against Hearts.”
“I think tonight could indeed be viewed as a free hit; expectations aren’t particularly high.”
