Wrexham’s ascent within English football has been marked by the departure of one of its key figures, veteran full-back James McClean, who has left the club by mutual agreement.
The 36-year-old former Republic of Ireland international and Premier League veteran played a pivotal role in securing back-to-back promotions for the Red Dragons while serving as captain at the Racecourse Ground. He is now set to return to Derry City, bringing his career full circle.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson commented: “I had a productive conversation with Jimmy last week. The timing is right for him and his family, as he has always wished to settle back in his hometown. Now he has the chance to conclude his career there.”
“He has been a tremendous asset to the club, and we have truly enjoyed having him with us. His dedication, determination, mentality, and professionalism have been invaluable over the past few years. We wish him and his family all the best.”
