Jamie Carragher: It’s Time…

Jamie Carragher has advised Liverpool manager Arne Slot to rethink Mohamed Salah’s (33) assured spot in the starting lineup, suggesting that the Egyptian’s performance no longer warrants being considered “undroppable.”

In a conversation on Sky Sports following Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United, Carragher expressed concerns over Salah’s recent form. The forward has gone seven Premier League matches without scoring a non-penalty goal, marking his longest drought since joining Liverpool in 2017, and he squandered two clear scoring opportunities at Old Trafford.

I believe we’ve reached a point where Mo Salah should no longer be a guaranteed starter every week,” Carragher stated. “He’s not in the form to maintain that status. Given his age and Liverpool’s evolving strategy, Slot needs to start thinking differently.”

Carragher suggested that while Salah could still be a key player at Anfield, where his presence in the box remains a threat, away games—especially those that demand solid defensive work—might warrant considering alternatives like Jeremie Frimpong, who made an impact off the bench on Sunday.

Wirtz and Isak Represent the Future

With Liverpool’s significant investments in Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz this summer, Carragher believes the club should focus on youth and energy for its future rather than rely on past legacies.

Liverpool’s investment in Isak and Wirtz is strategic,” he noted. “They symbolize the next chapter. While Salah’s legacy is assured, it’s crucial to start planning for the future.”
