Josko Gvardiol has highlighted his ability to adapt to the versatile style of Pep Guardiola’s team by excelling in multiple positions, including in attacking roles.
Since joining the club in the summer of 2023, the Croatian defender has made a significant impact, establishing himself as a formidable presence in Manchester City’s defense and consistently delivering outstanding performances week after week.
This was particularly evident when Gvardiol was named the club’s Player of the Season during a challenging campaign for the Blues, as Manchester City concluded the 2024/25 season without securing a major trophy for the first time in nine years.
As the second-most expensive defender in the history of English football, Gvardiol has proven to be worth every penny, showcasing his defensive skills, ball control, and offensive contribution, establishing himself as one of City’s top performers.
At just 23 years old, he doesn’t fit the traditional mold of a centre-back. His development under Pep Guardiola has involved taking on various roles, with most of his first two seasons spent playing as a left-back.

“Since joining Manchester City, my game hasn’t drastically changed. However, I learn something new from our manager every day.”
