Josko Gvardiol has solidified his future with Manchester City by signing a new contract, making him the second defender to do so this week.
The Croatian international has inked a five-year deal, which includes an option for an additional year.

Gvardiol follows Abdukodir Khusanov, who also recently extended his contract. This move reflects City’s strategy to shape their defense following the exits of John Stones and Nathan Ake.
Gvardiol, who became the most expensive defender in City’s history when he transferred from RB Leipzig for £77 million in 2023, earned the club’s player-of-the-year award for the 2024-25 season.
Despite interest from Real Madrid, he stated: “As soon as City wanted to renew my contract, I knew that’s what I wanted.”
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, expressed his satisfaction, saying: “Josko is already one of the best defenders in the world. Manchester City is dedicated to retaining our top talents, and we are thrilled that this contract has been finalized.”
