Julian Alvarez Issues…

PSG manager Luis Enrique has shown a willingness to adapt the No. 9 position, often opting not to deploy a traditional striker. For instance, Ousmane Dembélé assumed that role as the team competed successfully for a treble last season, which included their historic first UEFA Champions League title.

Although the Parisians have Gonçalo Ramos, a player capable of playing as a striker, he frequently comes off the bench for the team. This opens up the possibility that Enrique might seek a striker that aligns better with his vision in the future.

In 2024, Enrique and PSG were reportedly interested in a striker who could meet their criteria for the No. 9 position. Julián Álvarez was on their radar, but he ended up signing with Atlético de Madrid.

In an interview with France Football, the Argentine was asked about the possibility of representing PSG or Barcelona in the future.

“Am I planning to join PSG or Barcelona in the coming years? Honestly, I don’t know,” Álvarez responded. “I’ve seen the discussions on social media… There’s a lot of speculation about me and Barcelona in Spain. When I transferred to Atlético last year, there was also significant talk about Paris.”

“It’s true that PSG officials and my agent had discussions regarding an interest in signing me, but it ultimately didn’t materialize. For now, my focus is on Atlético. We’ll reassess at the end of the season.”

Unless Atlético is willing to sell him or the player actively seeks a transfer, he is likely to remain with the club for the foreseeable future. With a contract that runs until 2030, Atlético holds considerable leverage in any potential transfer discussions involving the Argentine.
