Chelsea clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s Super League at Kingsmeadow on Sunday afternoon.
Just three minutes into the match, Alyssa Thompson came close to scoring for Chelsea but sent her shot wide of the target.
Spurs had their first opportunity in the 13th minute when Cathinka Tandberg’s effort deflected, prompting goalkeeper Hannah Hampton to react quickly and punch the resulting corner away.
Despite gaining some momentum, Spurs were unable to capitalize, allowing Chelsea to regain control of the match.
Goalkeeper Lize Kop made a crucial save, rushing out to block a shot from Aggie Beever-Jones that could have put Chelsea ahead.
Wieke Kaptein of Chelsea also tried her luck, but her attempt was thwarted by an impressive defensive block.
At halftime, Chelsea recorded 15 shots, yet only one was on target, highlighting their struggles in front of goal.
After the break, Thompson tried again with a right-footed shot, but Kop was there to make the save.
The Dutch keeper excelled once more, coming off her line to smother another effort from Aggie Beever-Jones.
Ellie Carpenter came closest to breaking the deadlock shortly after halftime, launching a shot from 25 yards that sailed over the crossbar.
However, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 61st minute when Carpenter passed to Keira Walsh, who found the net, sending the ball past Kop.
Hampton almost handed Spurs an equalizer with a misdirected clearance, but Millie Bright was on hand to clean up the mess.
This victory marked the end of Chelsea’s two-game winless streak and allowed them to maintain their position at the top of the league standings.
