Kimmich: Arsenal Showdown…

Joshua Kimmich remarked that the upcoming Bayern Munich match against Arsenal on November 26 will serve as a crucial benchmark for Vincent Kompany’s squad, following Bayern’s 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, extending their unbeaten streak to 16 matches.

Luis Díaz scored twice before being shown a red card for a reckless tackle on Achraf Hakimi, which was enough to secure the win for Bayern, even as PSG mounted a late comeback with a goal from João Neves in the 74th minute.

This victory allowed Bayern to maintain their position at the top of the League Phase, edging out Arsenal on goal difference after the Gunners secured a 3-0 win against Slavia Prague. The two teams will clash again at the Emirates later this month, a match that Díaz will miss due to suspension. Kimmich suggested this upcoming game will provide insight into where Bayern truly stands.

“We’re at the top and facing Arsenal next,” Kimmich stated. “This will be an opportunity to gauge our position once more.”

“In particular, during the first half in Paris, we were exceptional.

“Our resilience was impressive, we created numerous chances, and our physical presence was strong. I can honestly say that the first half was one of the most intense I’ve ever experienced, with both teams engaged in constant one-on-one duels, and the second half felt even more intense.”

Bayern’s win was significantly aided by the performance of veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who made a series of crucial saves in the second half to help preserve the team’s advantage.

The former Germany No. 1, who will turn 40 next March, emphasized that Bayern showcased their defensive capabilities against a top-tier team by standing firm against the reigning European champions.

Luis Enrique puzzled by PSG’s ‘gifts’ to Bayern Munich

“Playing with 10 men is undoubtedly challenging, and the second half turned into a real battle,” Neuer commented. “However, we often rehearse such scenarios in training—being outnumbered—and we’ve proven we can defend well even in those circumstances against PSG.”

“Our objective was to maintain a compact defense and manage possession even while being outnumbered, which was difficult given the circumstances.

“For the forwards, including Harry Kane, it wasn’t easy to hold up play against multiple defenders or draw a free kick. Overall, I think we performed admirably.”
