In a significant move, LA Galaxy have secured the signing of one of the league’s premier defenders, as they welcome Jakob Glesnes, center-back from Philadelphia Union, to Southern California.
Glesnes, the former MLS Defender of the Year, marks another notable departure from the 2025 Supporters’ Shield winners, following Tai Baribo, who is reportedly heading to D.C. United.

Since joining from Norwegian club Strømsgodset in 2020, Glesnes has been instrumental for the Union, contributing to their two Supporters’ Shield victories and a run to the MLS Cup finals in 2022. He has also been recognized as an MLS All-Star on three occasions (2022, 2023, 2025).
“We are excited to welcome Jakob and his family to Los Angeles,” stated Galaxy GM Will Kuntz. “Over his six years in MLS, Jakob has proven himself as one of the league’s top center-backs and a vital leader for multiple Supporters’ Shield-winning teams.”
The transfer involves a fee exceeding $1 million GAM, with potential performance-based bonuses that could reach an additional $1 million.

Glesnes’ arrival could serve as a turning point for the Galaxy, aiming to rebound from a challenging 2025 season that concluded with them finishing 14th in the Western Conference.
