Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has drawn parallels between his relationship with Jack Rudoni and his experiences playing under José Mourinho at Chelsea.
Rudoni, 24, made his return to the pitch as a late substitute in Saturday’s victory against West Bromwich Albion after a nine-game absence due to a calf injury.
Lampard shared with BBC CWR, “José Mourinho was a major influence on me. He came into my career when I was around the same age as ‘Rudi,’ and he significantly impacted my game both on and off the field. He boosted my confidence and provided vital tactical insights.”
“With talented players like Jack, it’s essential to provide tactical guidance, but equally important is the communication and engagement we maintain, which was critical in my own experience.”
Rudoni joined Coventry from Huddersfield in June 2024, and his appearance against Albion marked 50 league matches for the Sky Blues.
“We have a strong rapport, discussing midfield dynamics and goal threats frequently. I understand his mindset, making our conversations fluid and enjoyable,” Lampard noted.
“While nothing in management compares to actually playing, fostering individual relationships and witnessing a player’s growth through hard work and performance provides immense satisfaction.”
