As the stadium fell silent, supporters raised a banner reading, “Rest in peace, James.”
On social media, Celtic said: “LASK has contacted us to say they wish to hold a period of silence before tonight’s match in tribute to our supporter who became ill and tragically passed away following last week’s first leg at Celtic Park.”
“We offer our thanks and appreciation to LASK.”
Last week, Celtic thanked the emergency services and fellow fans for their efforts in responding to the tragic incident.
A club statement added: “We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the family, and we will ensure they receive our full support during this extremely difficult time.”
Martin O’Neill’s side goes into the match at the Raiffeisen Arena with a 3-0 lead.
The winner will advance to the lucrative Champions League group stage.
