Leao and Tomori on AC…

Rafael Leao expressed that “dreaming costs nothing” regarding AC Milan’s aspirations for the Scudetto, while Fikayo Tomori emphasized their focus on the immediate future, stating they are “not thinking two or three months ahead.”

Lazio controlled much of the first half, with Mike Maignan once again stepping up with crucial saves against Mario Gila and Mattia Zaccagni.

However, it was the Rossoneri who took the lead shortly after the interval, against the flow of the game, with a meticulously crafted team goal, concluded by Rafael Leao’s slide to connect with a low cross from Tomori.

The match saw significant tension during stoppage time when Lazio’s penalty claims were reviewed by VAR. Ultimately, the referee ruled that Adam Marusic had fouled Strahinja Pavlovic prior to any handball incident.

This decision sparked a confrontation on the sidelines, resulting in the expulsion of both Max Allegri and Lazio’s assistant coach Marco Ianni.

“Lazio are a strong team and gave us a few challenges, but we stood united, fought together, and brought home three points,” Tomori remarked to Sky Sport Italia.

“Our squad is solid, and you can see the way we are playing. We aim to continue this momentum. It’s still early days, and while we’re performing well, we’re only focused on the next match.”

Rafael Leao has netted five goals this season, despite facing a significant injury setback, and is adapting well to his new role as a center-forward.

“I’m learning to be a Number 9, and the team has been incredibly supportive, both on and off the pitch. They understand the movements well; Tomori’s cross was a play we’ve practiced in training, so I knew exactly where to be,” the Portugal international shared with Sky Sport Italia.

“We have to maintain this form. We overcame a strong Lazio side seeking to improve their position in the table, and we’re delighted with the result.”

Currently, Milan sits at the top of the league, having triumphed in all their major matches this season. Are they on the path to the Scudetto?

“We’re on the right track, but there’s a long season ahead. We trained hard this week and want to keep this momentum going. We face Lazio again in four days and aim to defeat them once more, backed by our amazing fans.”

The upcoming match against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday marks the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

“As I mentioned before, Allegri is a winner. He has a history of success here at Milan and knows how to keep everyone focused. You could see the bench players had the right attitude, which is crucial for pursuing something significant,” Leao said when discussing Scudetto aspirations.

“Dreaming costs nothing, but we recognize there’s a long journey ahead. We also regard the Coppa Italia as an important goal this season.”
