Leicester City is set to appoint James McCarron, currently the director of player development at City Group, which manages Manchester City among other clubs, as their new sporting director.
The former head of performance at Sunderland is expected to start next month in a newly established role at the struggling Championship club.

McCarron previously served in the Premier League as an elite performance manager and was the sporting director at Belgian club Lommel, another team under Manchester City’s ownership, from 2021 to 2025.
As part of a reorganization, McCarron will collaborate with director of football Jon Rudkin.
“The structure will change,” said owner Khun Top to BBC Radio Leicester last month.
“He [Rudkin] will move above the sporting director, who will handle more of the daily operations, focusing on strategy, playing style, player acquisitions, and working with young talent in the academy.”

McCarron’s arrival comes after Leicester was penalized with a six-point deduction for violating English Football League financial regulations, though the club has appealed.
This penalty has placed them at risk of relegation to League One, just a decade after their Premier League title victory.
Recently, the Foxes named Gary Rowett as their manager for the remainder of the season following the dismissal of Marti Cifuentes.
In Rowett’s first match in charge, Leicester drew 2-2 with Stoke, leaving them in the relegation zone of the Championship as they prepare to face promotion-hopeful Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
