With both Salah and Alexander Isak starting on the bench, Ekitike took on the role of Liverpool’s lead striker and once again demonstrated why he’s been a standout performer in a challenging season.
His knack for scoring was apparent right from the kickoff, as he delivered a powerful shot past Verbruggen, creating numerous difficulties for Brighton with his dynamic movement.

The 23-year-old could have easily netted a hat-trick in the first half, as he blasted over the bar from a Gomez pass and later shot wide after Florian Wirtz set him up with a clever backheel.
His partnership with Wirtz showed great promise, and that synergy is something Liverpool will be keen to see develop further.
However, Wirtz found himself frustrated once again, remaining without a goal or assist in the Premier League.
Ekitike was central to his team’s offensive efforts, and after several attempts, he finally scored his second goal from a corner taken by Salah.
Meanwhile, Isak, the Premier League’s record signing, has yet to make an impact like his fellow summer acquisition and failed to leave a mark when he came on for Ekitike in the 78th minute.
With Cody Gakpo out due to injury and Salah headed to the AFCON with Egypt, Ekitike is set to remain a key player for Slot’s squad.
