Liverpool have surprisingly secured a transfer deal for a talented midfielder.

With their midfield depth in question, it was surprising to see Tommy Piling not included in the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

However, it has now become apparent why Piling was excluded from the tour. According to Ian Doyle, Liverpool has reached an agreement for Piling to join Slovakian club MFK Zemplin Michalovce on a permanent basis.

MFK Zemplin Michalovce competes in the top tier and finished fifth in the Slovak First Division last season, just missing out on European competition.

While there are a few English players on the roster, Piling’s transfer is certainly an unexpected twist and was not anticipated.

Liverpool will wish him the best in launching his senior career in a setting where he is likely to receive more first-team playing time.
