James McConnell’s Troubling Ajax Loan

Harvey Elliott has moved to Aston Villa, where he is facing challenges, while James McConnell and Vitezslav Jaros made the switch to Ajax.

Although Jaros has recently returned to the squad, the loan arrangement for McConnell has been largely unsuccessful.

The 21-year-old has not seen any action for Ajax since October, and the head coach who originally brought him in, John Heitinga, has already been dismissed.

There are indications that McConnell may return to Liverpool in January, highlighting the ongoing impact of this poorly planned loan deal.

Ajax Chief Resigns Over McConnell Transfer

According to the respected journalist Mike Verweij from De Telegraaf, the signing of McConnell has triggered significant discord within the Johan Cruyff Arena, with lasting repercussions.

A notable fallout is the departure of Ajax’s chief scout Kelvin de Lang, who has left the club due to disagreements over multiple player signings, including McConnell.

“Kelvin de Lang is stepping down from Ajax,” the report states. “The chief scout is pursuing new opportunities after feeling undervalued in the player recruitment process and experiencing a strained relationship with technical director Alex Kroes.”

“For example, de Lang opposed the acquisition of James McConnell. The controversial free transfer of Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has faced over a year on the sidelines due to severe knee injuries and is currently undergoing a medical in Amsterdam, reportedly became the final issue leading to his resignation.”
