Liverpool has announced the departure of Arne Slot as head coach.
Slot took the reins at Anfield in 2024, succeeding Jürgen Klopp, and led the team to its 20th Premier League title in his inaugural season.

However, a disappointing title defense resulted in the Reds facing 20 losses across all competitions and narrowly securing a Champions League qualification spot after the quota was expanded to five teams.
Fenway Sports Group, the club’s owners, have decided to end the Dutchman’s tenure as he was set to enter the final year of his contract.
“It goes without saying that this was a tough decision for us as a club,” stated a club announcement.
“From our very first meeting with Arne, it was clear he is someone who not only accepts responsibility but embraces it wholeheartedly.

“This was evident when he took over as head coach, celebrated our Premier League title, and navigated the challenges of the past season.”
“Nevertheless, we have collectively decided that change is necessary for the club’s continued progress.
“It’s important to emphasize that this decision was not made lightly. Quite the opposite.”
“Arne departs with our sincere gratitude, a Premier League title to his name, and the understanding that he and his family will always be welcome at Anfield.”
Andoni Iraola has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Slot, having recently departed from Bournemouth and having previously collaborated with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes.
