Liverpool Sign England…

Liverpool has acquired England goalkeeper Khiara Keating on a free transfer from Manchester City. The 22-year-old leaves City following the conclusion of her contract to reunite with manager Gareth Taylor, who she previously worked with in Manchester.

In June, BBC Sport reported that Keating declined an extension offer from City amidst interest from Liverpool. A product of the Manchester City academy, she played a crucial role in securing the club’s second Women’s Super League title last season.

“Liverpool is such a prestigious club, and I believe the women’s team is on the path to excellence,” Keating stated. “The playing style aligns with my skills, and I’m eager to be part of a project that’s heading in the right direction.”

Having made her England debut at Etihad Stadium in October 2025, Keating now becomes Liverpool’s fourth signing of the summer. Last season, she faced competition from Japan’s Ayaka Yamashita for the top goalkeeper position at City, starting just four WSL matches while the team also clinched the Women’s FA Cup.

Keating is considered one of the nation’s best young goalkeepers and was selected by England manager Sarina Wiegman for critical Women’s World Cup qualifying matches in June, though she missed out due to concussion. She was part of the victorious Euro 2025 squad and aims to secure a regular spot for the upcoming Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Liverpool’s coach Taylor, who oversaw Keating’s breakthrough season in 2023-24, gave her her WSL debut. At just 19, she became the youngest goalkeeper to earn the WSL Golden Glove award by keeping a total of nine clean sheets that season.

With previous loan stints at AFC Fylde and Coventry United, Keating also brings Women’s Champions League experience. “The start of my career has been fantastic, but I was missing that key element,” she explained. “I believe Liverpool can provide that opportunity—regular playtime, alongside a strong team, with the chance to win trophies.”

Liverpool sought a new goalkeeper after Jennifer Falk’s loan ended in May, and plans for a permanent deal fell through.
