An essential player for Liverpool is set to secure a new contract with the club.

Following a tumultuous contract saga last season, Richard Hughes emerged victorious by securing new contracts for Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Hughes made every effort to retain Trent Alexander-Arnold, but it seemed a futile task as the former number 66 had already been eyeing a move to Madrid before the season kicked off.

After such a season, one would expect Hughes to have fewer contract concerns, yet he finds himself back in the negotiation realm for key player contracts.

The primary focus now is on Ibrahima Konate, who has less than a year left on his Liverpool contract. Real Madrid is poised to pursue him, potentially repeating their pursuit of Trent.

Liverpool hopes to avoid a repeat of history. However, Konate is not the sole player on Hughes’ agenda for new contracts.

Andy Robertson finds himself in a similar situation. He attracted interest from Atletico Madrid last summer.

Fortunately, Liverpool said no to that bid and chose to loan out Kostas Tsimikas instead.

Still, Robertson’s future looks uncertain. Since Milos Kerkez’s arrival, he’s struggled for game time and long-term prospects at Anfield seem bleak.

At 31 years old, this is the phase where Liverpool typically starts parting ways with aging stars. However, Robertson should be an exception.

His competence and readiness to sign a new deal affirm his potential impact on the team, as reflected in his performances.

Robertson made his return against Aston Villa, proving his reliability. He dominated the game from the left-back position, and it’s no coincidence that Liverpool’s two recent victories came with him starting against Eintracht Frankfurt and Aston Villa.

Moreover, Robertson is a significant presence in the locker room, getting along well with teammates and offering invaluable experience from his time spent winning trophies with Liverpool.

Although Liverpool is cautious about giving long contracts to players over 30, Robertson is actively defying the norm. He has expressed a desire to stay and fight for his place in the squad, despite doubts cast against him this summer, he’s proving those voices wrong. Robertson remains an integral part of the team’s plans under Slot’s guidance, making him truly deserving of a new contract.
