Liverpool have finalized a £60 million agreement for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, although the center-back will not be joining the club until the summer transfer window. Pending a medical examination, the 20-year-old will officially become a Red after both clubs agreed on a £55 million transfer fee, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.
There are no anticipated issues regarding personal terms with the France Under-21 international. Chelsea reportedly engaged in discussions with Jacquet during the winter transfer window, but sources indicate that they will not be competing with Liverpool’s offer.
Liverpool is looking to strengthen their center-back lineup, especially as Ibrahima Konate’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Last summer, Arne Slot’s side missed out on Marc Guehi, who later chose to join Manchester City in January.
Jacquet has emerged as a prospect after progressing through the Rennes academy, making 18 appearances for the club this season, with his impressive performances attracting interest from top European teams. Liverpool views him as a long-term investment for their defense.
