Mali Holds Morocco to 1

Morocco played to a 1-1 draw against Mali in their second Africa Cup of Nations match at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Friday.

From the outset, both teams displayed attacking intent, yet neither managed to create significant chances.

Morocco found their first real scoring opportunity when Brahim Diaz tested goalkeeper Djigui Diarra with a solid shot in the 16th minute.

While Morocco looked more determined in their offensive plays, they failed to threaten Diarra’s goal convincingly.

Ismael Saibari had a chance just before halftime, meeting a cross from Anass Salah-Eddine, but his header went wide.

Ayyoub El Kaabi also missed a header as Morocco sought to gain the upper hand.

Just before the break, the hosts were awarded a penalty, which Brahim Diaz successfully converted, marking his second goal of the tournament.

Immediately after the second half began, Morocco nearly extended their lead with a brilliant cross that just eluded El Kaabi.

Mali equalized against the run of play after the hour mark when they were awarded a penalty due to a foul on Lassine Sinayoko, and he went on to score.

In response, Morocco manager Walid Regragui made three attacking substitutions, bringing on Bilal El Khannouss, Abde Ezzalzouli, and Youssef En-Nesyri.

Mali coach Tom Saintfiet also made adjustments, substituting Sinayoko for El Bilal Toure.

En-Nesyri had a brilliant chance to put Morocco back in front after a defensive error from Mali, but he was thwarted by the goalkeeper.

Both teams pressed for a late winner, but despite their efforts, the match ended in a draw.
