Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim sharing his thoughts with BBC’s Match of the Day: “It was a peculiar match. We anticipated it to be unlike our game against Newcastle. We needed more creativity to generate scoring opportunities, and we struggled in the first half with regaining possession. Their midfield presence was strong, and despite our efforts, we didn’t have the quality needed. We must regroup for the next match.”

Regarding absent players: “I’m not using that as an excuse. We attempted to deploy two strikers, but unfortunately conceded a goal from a set piece. Today simply wasn’t our day.”

On conceding just before halftime: “This is an area we need to improve because it’s not the first occasion it has happened. The game lacked fluidity. We made efforts, trying to create overloads on one side, but in the Premier League, one-on-one situations are crucial, and we fell short today.

We lacked the wide players to execute our plans effectively; we focused on congesting the midfield, but alas, it wasn’t our day.

Even in the match against Everton, we lost three points, and against West Ham, it was two points dropped. It’s always frustrating. That’s the nature of football. If we concentrate on our performance, we clearly struggled today.”
