Man United player calls…

Manchester United faced a disappointing end to their five-match unbeaten streak on Monday night, suffering a 1-0 loss against 10-man Everton at Old Trafford, leaving both players and fans in shock.

The final whistle was met with boos as the Red Devils failed to make use of an early lead, despite enjoying a manpower advantage for most of the match.

The contest took a surprising turn when Idrissa Gana Gueye received an early red card for an altercation with teammate Michael Keane.

Despite dominating possession and outshooting their opponents, Ruben Amorim’s squad struggled to convert their chances.

They could not counter Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s stunning curling goal, which secured a 1-0 victory for Everton, marking their first win at Old Trafford since 2013.

Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt did not hold back in expressing his thoughts on the performance.

“Tonight was very disappointing, especially considering we were playing against 10 men,” he stated. “We conceded a goal and didn’t create many chances. Overall, it was just a poor performance.”

De Ligt emphasized the need for unity and improvement ahead of their next match.

“The upcoming game against Crystal Palace is critical. We must recover from this performance. We’ve shown good form in recent weeks, but this was not up to par.”

“Now we need to come together and identify what needs to be improved because today was simply not good enough.”

This defeat also marked a significant achievement for David Moyes, the former United manager, who claimed his first Premier League victory at Old Trafford after 18 attempts.

United’s failure to convert any of their 25 shots, with Jordan Pickford making several crucial saves on their six attempts on target, underscored their ineffectiveness. In contrast, Everton’s sole shot on target resulted in a goal.

“It’s frustrating, but that’s football,” De Ligt commented on MUTV. “The Premier League is unforgiving.

“A single chance can lead to a goal, and when they capitalize on one and we don’t, that’s the fine line between winning and losing: efficiency. We lacked that today.

“I believe we also lacked urgency in creating chances and scoring goals, especially against a team like Everton, who defend well and are strong in the air. That sums up the night.

“This is my first win here. It’s always a tough place to visit, given its rich history. I enjoy playing here, and past results haven’t gone our way during my time at Everton,” he stated.

Pickford shared the pre-match motivation from their manager: “The manager emphasized before the match that if we wanted to establish ourselves as a proper team and climb the table, this was the moment to assert our presence and secure a result.”

“We understood the challenges, but we executed what the gaffer wanted and were rewarded with the win. He was very pleased. The dedication in training this week showed we were eager to achieve this result.”

Manchester United will seek to recover as they head to Crystal Palace on Sunday, while Everton, energized by their surprising victory, will welcome Newcastle on Saturday evening.
