Manchester United has finalized the transfer of Mexico international Rebeca Bernal from the Washington Spirit, a deal announced on Wednesday.
At 29 years old, Bernal is set to become the first Mexican to play in England’s Women’s Super League, having signed a contract that will keep her at the club until June 2029.

Bernal began her professional journey with Monterrey, accumulating 223 appearances before her move to the Washington Spirit. During her time in the National Women’s Soccer League, she participated in 50 matches and helped her team secure the Challenge Cup.
James Hocken, sporting director for the Spirit, expressed gratitude for Bernal’s contributions over the past year and a half, noting, “She played a crucial role in our Challenge Cup victory and led us to our second consecutive NWSL final. She has established a high professional standard at the Spirit, and we look forward to seeing her succeed in England.”
On the international front, Bernal is a captain for the Mexican national team, boasting 78 caps and nine goals for her country.
She joins United just ahead of their Women’s Super League opener against the London City Lionesses on Friday evening.
