Will Dickson has officially joined EFL League Two club Chesterfield on a permanent deal after a successful loan stint in the east Midlands.
The 21-year-old’s transfer concludes a five-year tenure at Manchester City, where he initially signed a scholarship contract in 2021 and progressed to the Elite Development Squad (EDS) during the 2022-23 season.

A product of the Premier League club’s academy, Dickson enjoyed a fruitful time with the EDS, netting 18 goals in 38 appearances. This impressive performance led him to secure his first professional contract with City in July 2023.
While much of his later time in the north-west was affected by injuries, Dickson notably made it into Manchester City’s matchday squad for a UEFA Champions League clash against Slovan Bratislava in October 2024.
Now, after being loaned to Chesterfield until the season’s end, he has signed a contract that will keep him at the SMH Group Stadium until the summer of 2027, having already made 18 appearances across all competitions under manager Gary Roberts.
So far, Dickson has both scored and assisted a goal while playing as both a striker and an attacking midfielder for the Spireites. His first goal for the club was a memorable solo effort in a 4-1 victory against Newport County, where he confidently drove the ball into the net after a run from his own half.

Roberts has expressed his enthusiasm over the signing, indicating his belief that Dickson has the potential to evolve into one of the league’s most potent forwards.
“Will (Dickson) is just 21 years old, and we see the potential for him to develop into a significant player for this club,” Roberts stated in an interview with Chesterfield’s official channels.
“He comes to us with a solid foundation from Manchester City, and we believe there’s even more potential for him to tap into.”
Throughout his time at Manchester City, Dickson made 87 appearances across the U18, U19, and U21 teams, scoring a total of 37 goals at the City Football Academy.
Following a standout period in City’s youth ranks, he was loaned to Scottish club Motherwell, where he made just seven appearances and didn’t record any goal contributions in 124 minutes of play.

Signing with Chesterfield on a permanent basis is sure to instill confidence in the forward, who is eager to take on a more significant role in the coming seasons as he continues to develop in his position.
