Manchester City has officially announced the establishment of a new youth soccer club in the United States.
City Football Group (CFG) has identified the United States as a key part of its global multi-club strategy, primarily through the success of New York City FC (NYCFC), which began its journey in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2015.
Throughout the past 11 years, NYCFC has transitioned from a nascent expansion team to a formidable force in the league, winning the MLS Cup in 2021 and the Campeones Cup in 2022.
As of March 2026, NYCFC is set to reach a significant milestone with the completion of its first permanent 25,000-seat stadium in Willets Point, Queens. This venue will be New York City’s first soccer-specific stadium, fully funded by CFG.
Introducing Manchester City’s First Full-Time Youth Academy in the US
In a statement from Manchester City, the club announced the creation of ‘Manchester City North Texas FC’, aimed at providing coaching and development programs for youth aged 8-19.
Manchester City North Texas FC will mark the club’s inaugural full-time youth development initiative in the United States, building on the successes of Manchester City Football Programs, which currently engage over 40,000 young players across 38 cities in 14 countries annually.
Why Dallas Was Chosen for Team Expansion
The newly established initiative will feature teams competing in various leagues and tournaments throughout the USA, along with talent centers for youth players from all clubs. There will also be school and community-based programs throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Seasonal camps and unique opportunities, including training sessions at the City Football Academy in Manchester, will be available. Additionally, full-time Manchester City coaches will move to Dallas to implement the club’s development philosophy.
Cavan Sullivan Update: Philadelphia Union and Manchester City
City Football Group and Manchester City have demonstrated interest in American talent, notably with the acquisition of 16-year-old wonderkid Cavan Sullivan, who is considered a promising addition to the club’s future roster.
While he officially joined in 2024, he will continue his growth with the Philadelphia Union until he turns 18 in September 2027. There are plans for him to potentially transfer to a European partner club, such as Lommel SK or Girona, should he outpace MLS before reaching 18.
Cavan Sullivan visited the City Football Academy last summer for training and is being carefully prepared for a transition to European football, with coaches expressing optimism about his development in the United States.
