Alongside fellow football legend Bernardo Silva, tributes to John Stones have been flooding in since the defender announced his decision to depart Manchester City at the conclusion of the season.
At 31 years old, Stones has made 293 appearances for the club since his transfer from Everton for £47.5 million in 2016, playing a crucial role in helping City secure six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, the Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

City fan Scott expressed to BBC Radio Manchester: “I’m struggling to process this. The players I’ve really loved over the past few years are all leaving. He was the second signing under Pep Guardiola after Ilkay Gundogan. When he joined, he was only 20, and everyone thought he’d be sitting on the bench. He has displayed remarkable versatility and has been an exceptional player for the club.
“His adaptation into midfield illustrates that perfectly, and he has contributed to every campaign where we’ve clinched trophies. Particularly in the Champions League final during our treble-winning season, he delivered a remarkable performance. He’s undoubtedly been a fantastic signing for the club.”
Another City supporter, Nigel, added: “Watching him, especially throughout the treble season, he has the ability to play the game almost effortlessly when he’s fit. He is that talented.
“He is the kind of player born with a natural gift for football. That’s John Stones’ caliber.

“What I admire is how he bounced back after his initial struggles at City. The way he fought back to establish himself as an elite footballer showcases his determination and dedication.”
