Matos Confirms Backroom…

New Swansea City manager Vitor Matos will have the support of two club legends as he prepares to lead the team for the first time this evening against Derby County (19:45 GMT).

Former midfielders Leon Britton and Joe Allen, who collectively have over 750 appearances for the Swans, have already joined the training sessions to assist Matos in his initial days following his appointment as Alan Sheehan’s successor.

Both Britton and Allen were reportedly consulted during Matos’s hiring process, and they have now stepped in to help facilitate his transition.

However, Matos is expected to supplement his coaching staff with personnel from Portugal, with club officials confirming they are in talks to finalize a support team for the 37-year-old.

Long-time club member Kris O’Leary and Wales goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson are likely to retain their positions at Swansea.Com Stadium.

With the departures of Darren O’Dea and Richard Stearman following Sheehan’s exit, Matos has several roles to fill within his staff.

Assistant Diogo Medeiros, veteran coach Toze Mendes, and analyst and coach Goncalo Ricca are anticipated to join Matos from Maritimo.

“Leon and Joe have stepped in to support the coaching team during this transitional phase,” said Swansea chief executive Tom Gorringe. “There are no better individuals to offer assistance and provide insight into the club’s culture and history.”

“Vitor will receive comprehensive support to build a team that enhances his prospects for success, and we’re actively progressing in that regard to ensure he has the necessary experience and resources to implement his strategies on the pitch.”

Allen has indicated an interest in coaching since retiring from playing in May, while Britton has previously served as caretaker manager, assistant manager, and director of football after a distinguished playing career with the Swans.
