Maybe Weve Been Too Nice

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jayson Molumby has expressed that the players have been “too nice” amid their league difficulties.

The Baggies are currently 19th in the Championship, having suffered eight defeats in their last 11 league matches, leaving them just three points and positions above the relegation zone.

The situation reached a tipping point following a humiliating 5-0 loss at home to Norwich last Tuesday.

“There have definitely been some strong discussions among us that I won’t go into detail about, but they were essential,” Molumby told BBC Radio WM. “I think we may have been too accommodating with each other for too long.”

“It’s time for all of us to reflect, ask hard questions of ourselves, and expect more from our teammates. This is where we need to start moving forward through the rest of the season.”

Chris Mepham’s injury-time equaliser secured a draw for Albion against Derby on Friday, marking Eric Ramsay’s first point in his third match since taking over from Ryan Mason.

However, Molumby has refrained from assigning blame to either coach for the team’s current standings. “The previous manager gave everything he had, working tirelessly for us, and the responsibility lies solely on us as players,” he remarked.

“It’s up to us on the field to improve our performance.”

The squad must quickly adapt to Ramsay’s new style of play, with limited time left in the season, as they have 17 league matches remaining. “Since the new manager arrived, he has introduced a different approach to our game, which is challenging to grasp, but we need to stay committed, keep practicing, and elevate our performance on the pitch,” Molumby noted.

“We need to be more assertive; we’re working on being more compact in the midfield and need to build our game from that foundation.”
