Kylian Mbappe, the striker for Real Madrid, has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee but will not require surgery at this time.
The 27-year-old French international has been dealing with an injury to the outer ligament of his left knee since late 2025.
As a result, he missed last week’s second leg of the Champions League playoff against Benfica and traveled to Paris for additional evaluations.
Mbappe will not participate in the upcoming La Liga match against Getafe on Monday, and his status for the first leg of the last-16 Champions League tie against Manchester City next week remains uncertain.
Real Madrid confirmed that “the diagnosis of a sprain in his left knee has been established,” and Mbappe will continue with a regimen of “conservative treatment.”
His representatives have stated that he is in Paris with members of the Real Madrid medical team.
“In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further assessments on his knee to enhance his treatment plan and facilitate his return,” the statement read.

“There are currently no plans for surgical intervention.”
Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa mentioned last week that the decision to allow Mbappe, who has netted 38 goals in 33 matches this season, to take the necessary time to regain full fitness was a collaborative choice.
“It was a consensus among everyone, and we believe that the best course of action is for him to rest, recover, and return at 100%,” Arbeloa explained.
“This won’t be a matter of just a few days; it will likely take longer, but I can’t specify how long. Let’s hope it’s not too excessive.”
