Meslier Signs for Arsenal…

Arsenal has secured the signing of goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds, agreeing to a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.

During his seven-year tenure with the Yorkshire side, Meslier amassed 215 appearances and recorded 70 clean sheets.

The 26-year-old French goalkeeper expressed his excitement, stating he is eager to “win trophies” with “the biggest club in England.”

BBC Sport first reported the Gunners’ interest in Meslier on June 30, and the transfer has now been finalized.

He stated, “I’m very happy and proud to join Arsenal. I can’t wait to demonstrate my love for this badge and win trophies with this team, as this club deserves to lift trophies consistently.”

Having lost his starting position at Leeds, Meslier entered the summer without a contract and was available for a free transfer.

Arsenal’s primary goalkeeper, David Raya won the Premier League Golden Glove for the 2025-26 season by achieving 19 clean sheets in 37 matches, contributing to Arsenal’s title victory.

There’s uncertainty regarding the future of the current second-choice keeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, prompting Arsenal to investigate the transfer market for a potential replacement.

Meslier is set to serve as the third-choice goalkeeper, behind Raya and Arrizabalaga, but should Arrizabalaga leave, Meslier could step into the second-choice role.

With Meslier’s arrival, teenage goalkeeper Tommy Setford may go out on loan this summer.
