Mexico introduces a unique…

With less than a month until they begin their co-hosting duties for the FIFA World Cup, Mexico has unveiled an impressive new third kit to complement their existing stylish jerseys for the 2026 finals.

This new alternate kit, developed in collaboration with the Mexican apparel brand Someone Somewhere, draws inspiration from Mexico’s rich history of hosting the World Cup, previously held in 1970 and 1986. It pairs beautifully with the sleek home and away shirts already released by Adidas and El Tri.

The jersey symbolizes national pride and unity as it marks the third time Mexico has hosted the men’s World Cup.

This striking shirt features a predominantly black design accented with a subtle Aztec-inspired zig-zag pattern, incorporating stylized M and X motifs. Crafted by rural artists and artisans supported by the Someone Somewhere initiative, this design embodies national pride.

The jersey is embellished with the colors of the Mexican tricolore, utilizing green, red, and white from the national flag to enhance the federation crest, the Adidas trefoil, and sleeve stripes.

In 2022, FIFA adjusted its regulations to permit national teams to submit more than two kits for tournaments in an effort to reduce color clashes. Despite this change, only a few teams have opted to create third options for the 2026 tournament. Mexico is among the latest to introduce their alternate kit, joining a limited number of others.

In a move that could have replaced their away shirt (instead of the unfortunate black splotch design currently chosen), Canada’s third shirt boasts a dynamic white base adorned with a prominent maple leaf graphic that effectively segments the shirt into quarters.

DR Congo’s third kit features a vibrant red and yellow design patterned with a swirling “oil on water” effect across the shoulders and sleeves, showcasing a colorful and lively aesthetic.

Ecuador’s third jersey, presented as a “second away kit,” showcases a retro-style white base with a bold blue V-neck collar, featuring tricolore panels under the arms and a unique textured fabric.

Haiti’s third shirt mirrors the design of both their home and away kits, featuring a simple solid red shade complemented by a silhouette of freedom fighters, creating a cohesive representation of national identity.

Norway’s sleek “blackout” away kit has a corresponding “whiteout” variant designated as their third option. Both share an understated design, with the color palette extending from white to “pure platinum.”
