Michael Edwards Set to…

Michael Edwards is gearing up for a strategic move to acquire a standout right-back.

Recently, Edwards has faced increased scrutiny regarding the long-term trajectory of Liverpool under FSG.

Since returning as FSG’s Head of Football Operations, he has played a significant role in managing the club’s considerable summer expenditures.

While the squad overhaul has yet to fully gel, it remains early in the process. Many new acquisitions are young, highly promising talents, creating a belief that the project could prosper over time as everything falls into place.

However, some criticism extends beyond recruitment strategies. Upon Edwards’ return, there was hope that he would help transition Liverpool towards a multi-club model akin to those embraced by clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City.

At present, however, that vision appears to have lost some traction. It no longer seems to be a primary focus, leading to questions regarding Edwards’ long-term role at the club.

His current contract extends until 2027, and there has been no concrete indication from Liverpool or FSG about any plans for an extension.

Despite the surrounding uncertainties, Edwards is expected to remain committed to his primary objective: fortifying Liverpool’s squad in the coming years.

Given his extensive history with the club, there is still confidence in his dedication to positioning Liverpool favorably for competitive success again.

And that’s precisely what’s happening.

Since Edwards’ return, Liverpool’s recruitment strategy has noticeably evolved, shifting toward a more modern and expansive approach. The club is no longer confined to traditional markets, actively enhancing their scouting efforts to uncover talent from a diverse range of countries and leagues.

This strategic change is already reflected in the profile of incoming players. New signings such as Armin Pecsi, Ifeanyi Ndukwe, and Mor Talla Ndiaye indicate a clear focus on identifying and securing young, high-potential talent early.

Additionally, Sidy Barhama Ndiaye, who spent time training with Liverpool last summer, is also expected to join once he turns 18, barring any unexpected developments. Alongside him, Samuel Martinez has already signed from Colombia and is set to officially join when he turns 18.

Recently, Liverpool’s interest in another highly regarded teenager, Kennet Eichhorn, appears to be intensifying, with reports suggesting that a transfer is progressing swiftly.

This collective effort underscores a recruitment strategy that’s becoming more forward-thinking and proactive.

Rather than merely pursuing established stars, Liverpool is clearly aiming to get a jump on the market by securing rising prospects early and weaving them into the club’s long-term ambitions.

The latest player Liverpool are considering signing this summer is Daniel Banjaqui.

Pedro Marques, who joined from Benfica and reports to Edwards, is a strong supporter of the right-back. Anfield Watch has exclusively reported that Banjaqui is on Liverpool’s radar.

The U17 World Cup champion has impressed at Benfica, making several first-team appearances and even providing an assist in his debut for the club.

Banjaqui is a promising right-back who has drawn comparisons to Nuno Mendes of Paris Saint Germain, and many believe he possesses similar potential to the now world-class full-back.

Anfield Watch has confirmed that Liverpool are actively pursuing a right-back this summer, with Banjaqui being regarded as a prime candidate.

It’s understood that Liverpool has recently engaged in discussions with the player’s representatives, and a transfer seems imminent. The club is keen to secure a deal this summer so that Banjaqui can qualify as a homegrown player, similar to Giovanni Leoni, and the previously mentioned Ndiaye and Ndukwe.

Banjaqui’s contract with Benfica lasts until 2031, and he has a release clause set at €80 million, although Liverpool is aiming to negotiate a fee well below that amount.
