Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, has expressed his worries regarding the muscle injury suffered by striker Viktor Gyökeres (27) during the team’s 2-0 win at Burnley on Saturday, according to a report from BBC Sport.
The £64 million summer recruit scored the opening goal at Turf Moor but was substituted at half-time and has not been able to train since the incident. The 27-year-old Swede has netted four goals in the Premier League this season and will miss the upcoming Champions League match against Slavia Prague while further assessments are conducted to gauge the severity of his injury.
Arteta confirmed, “No, he’s definitely not available. He hasn’t trained today. We need more tests and scans to understand the extent of the injury. But he’s not available.”
When asked if the injury might be a short-term issue, Arteta responded cautiously, saying, “I am concerned. He hasn’t experienced many muscular problems before, but he felt something and had to come off. That’s never a good sign, especially for a player who’s very explosive.”
Gyökeres adds to a growing list of absentees, which includes Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Jesus, putting additional pressure on Arsenal’s attacking options as they navigate a busy fixture schedule. Arteta stated that the club would provide updates following the medical team’s evaluations.
