Mkhitaryan Shares: “I…

Former Roma player Henrikh Mkhitaryan reflected on his time in the Italian capital and his subsequent transfer to Inter in the summer of 2022.

“It all began in mid-August 2019 when Raiola reached out to me, saying, ‘We need to make a change because you’re not happy. Do you prefer Milan or Roma?’ I expressed my desire to play, and since Milan was focused on acquiring Taison from Shakhtar at the time, I decided it would be better to head to Rome.”

“The reception I received was remarkable. I truly cherished that experience and I’m very thankful for it. The club has a warm atmosphere, and the fans are incredibly passionate, in the best way possible. I rediscovered my joy and love for playing football, and from day one, everything went smoothly.”

“As for my departure, it all started after my second year at Roma when I received a call from Ausilio indicating that Inter was interested in signing me. After that conversation, we didn’t communicate again. During my third season with Roma, there were discussions about renewing my contract, and Tiago Pinto was aware that I loved the city and wished to finish my career there.”

“Following a match against Inter, Ausilio reached out again. Even though we were still in contention for the Conference League final, I decided to accept Inter’s offer because Roma had not been very clear with me. They suggested I speak with Mourinho about my intentions, but by then it was too late, as I had already committed to Inter.”
