Paris Saint-Germain faced their fourth league defeat of the season, losing 3-1 at home to Monaco, yet they remain at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

This match allowed Monaco to avenge their earlier exit from the Champions League at the hands of PSG this season.

Maghnes Akliouche put Monaco ahead in the first half with a close-range shot. They extended their lead in the 55th minute when Aleksandr Golovin finished off a well-crafted move.

Bradley Barcola provided a spark of hope for the home team with a goal 19 minutes before the final whistle, but Folarin Balogun sealed the win for Monaco with a stunning shot from just outside the box that found the far corner of the net.

Under Luis Enrique, PSG sits four points clear of Lens, who have a match in hand, while Monaco occupies the fifth position in the standings.

PSG now turns its attention to their upcoming two-legged Champions League last-16 tie against Chelsea on Wednesday at 20:00 GMT.
