Nantes Sticks with Luis…

Nantes head coach Luis Castro is expected to stay in his position for now, despite a worrisome decline in performance. The team has managed only two victories in their last 15 Ligue 1 matches and is currently tied on points with FC Metz, who sit at the bottom of the table. Recently, reports surfaced indicating that Castro’s position is precarious, with indications that he has ceased communication with the club’s management.

In light of this situation, Nantes was reportedly exploring options for a new head coach. A report from Ouest-France mentioned that Will Still, the former coaches of Reims and Lens, was the club’s top choice to succeed Castro. Currently a free agent after being let go by Southampton, Still’s connection with Nantes appears to have been fleeting, as noted by L’Equipe.

Ouest-France also reported that while Still considered the opportunity at La Maison Jaune, he wanted to bring his brothers, who serve as assistant coaches in Belgium, with him to Nantes. Ultimately, without an agreement with Still, the club has chosen to retain Castro until the winter break. In a related move, Nantes’ management has promoted Stéphane Ziani, the head coach of the reserve team, to the position of Sporting Coordinator, aimed at facilitating communication between Castro and the club’s owners.
