Newcastles…

In our ongoing collaboration with Shoot Music, OneFootball is featuring weekly interviews with artists about their passion for football.

This week, we catch up with Newcastle United supporter and lead vocalist of The Pale White, Adam Hope.

How long have you been a Newcastle supporter, and what drew you to the club?

I must confess that my devotion to Newcastle United came later in my life. Our dad being from Sunderland meant growing up, I often faced some teasing at school. It definitely made me hesitate for a while… but ultimately, fate caught up with me. Coming from Wallsend, it’s only natural to stand behind the Toon through thick and thin.

What stands out as your favorite childhood memory while supporting Newcastle?

I witnessed Alan Shearer’s record-setting 201st goal in person, surpassing the legendary Jackie Milburn as Newcastle’s all-time top scorer—remarkably, it happened exactly 20 years ago from the day I pen this on February 4, 2026. It still sends chills down my spine, a true salute to you, Alan!

How would you evaluate Newcastle’s current season, and what would make it successful by May?

Complacency has truly held us back this season. Regardless of whether we’re leading or trailing by halftime, we tend to fall into that same old pattern, allowing needless errors to cost us. Our luck with injuries has also been devastating, and I feel we’ve missed out on developing the right synergy with new players like Woltemade and Wissa. At this juncture, simply aiming for a top 10 finish while avoiding serious injuries would be a reasonable expectation.

How confident are you in Eddie Howe’s ability to turn the season around?

I have immense respect for Eddie, but he needs to break free from his routine. By the time the 67th minute hits, we’ve all come to expect his substitution pattern. The opposition is easily able to anticipate our moves—it’s time for him to switch things up and be bold with new strategies. I’d love to see us embrace a more aggressive playing style, as the few times we’ve attempted it this season, it has yielded positive results.

Finally, can you share your emotions and location when Newcastle clinched the Carabao Cup last year?

We performed a few acoustic tracks at a Newcastle fan zone before watching the game at our beloved venue, The Cluny. The atmosphere was electric even before the match kicked off. When the final whistle blew, witnessing years of heartbreak fade away for the club was incredibly surreal.

The Pale White’s latest single ‘Absolute Cinema’ is out now, and their third album ‘Inanimate Objects of the 21st Century’ will be released on March 27th through End of the Wall Recordings.
