Real Madrid has announced that Nico Paz will remain at Serie A‘s Como for another year. The LaLiga powerhouse retains the option to bring the playmaker back to Madrid in 2027.
The 21-year-old Paz has made a significant impact at Como since joining in 2024, playing a key role in their qualification for the Champions League for the first time in history last season and securing the title of Serie A’s best midfielder.
The Argentina international, who is currently representing his country at the World Cup, progressed through Madrid’s academy before transferring to Como in August 2024.
“Real Madrid, Como, and Nico Paz have agreed that the player will stay at the Italian club next season,” Madrid stated in a press release on Monday.
“The agreement, initiated at the player’s request, allows Real Madrid to maintain a unilateral option to reacquire Nico Paz’s rights for the 2027-28 season,” the statement continued.
Reports from ESPN this week indicated that Madrid’s plans to sign another midfielder are contingent on the departure of one of their current players.
Despite the recent exit of Dani Ceballos, Madrid still has a strong midfield lineup that includes Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Arda Güler, and new signing Bernardo Silva under the guidance of new coach José Mourinho.
“After careful consideration, I’ve concluded that the best path for my career at this moment is to stay at Como for another year,” Paz expressed in a social media post. “This club has provided me the chance to develop and become the player I am today.”
“I genuinely believe this is the right decision for both myself and Real Madrid. It’s a pivotal year in my career, and a unique opportunity to further my growth as a player and prepare effectively for the future.”
