Watford’s assistant sporting director, Valon Behrami, does not anticipate receiving any bids for forward Othmane Maamma, who is regarded as a ‘wonderkid’, during the January transfer window.

Maamma has made a significant impact at Vicarage Road, netting two goals in nine appearances since his pivotal role in helping Morocco secure the Fifa Under-20 World Cup title in October.

Behrami explained to BBC Three Counties Radio, “We are not in the habit of selling in the January transfer window unless an extraordinarily high offer comes along, accompanied by a unique valuation.”

“With a player like Maamma, the challenge ahead is managing heightened expectations from game to game. This is particularly crucial for a young talent like him. Our main focus is to ensure his continued development and to guide him in making the right choices as the pressure increases. This is an exciting time for him, and we are committed to supporting him throughout this journey.”

Behrami emphasized that the 20-year-old’s talent was evident, which is why Watford signed him from Montpellier in the summer.

He added, “Initially, we didn’t see much of him due to some injury issues upon his arrival. He is a prime example of how hard work pays off; I recall him rigorously undertaking double sessions every day for two months.”

“We recognized his talent, but his rapid growth following his return from the World Cup was surprising. What amazed me wasn’t just his skills but how quickly he progressed.”
