Noni Madueke believes the upcoming World Cup may showcase the talents of substitutes as England gears up for their opening match against Croatia on Wednesday.

With a 26-man squad full of depth, Thomas Tuchel is well-prepared as they head to Dallas for their Group L debut.

Madueke is competing with Arsenal teammate Bukayo Saka for a starting position on the right, but big names like Anthony Gordon, Marcus Rashford, Eberechi Eze, Morgan Rogers, and Jude Bellingham are also vying for spots in Tuchel’s starting lineup.

Given the heat and the introduction of water breaks, substitutions may play a crucial role in determining match outcomes.

“We have an incredible team, and everyone recognizes their own abilities,” Madueke shared with talkSPORT.

“You won’t find a player on the bench who isn’t capable. It often comes down to who matches up better against the opponent or who’s currently in form.”

“In our last match against Costa Rica, the substitutes came on and made a significant impact. That’s a testament to our squad’s depth.”

Madueke is appreciated for his versatility, with the England management valuing his capability to perform well on either wing.

Having impressed under Tuchel’s guidance, Madueke aims to become one of the best wingers globally, recognizing the need to enhance his goal-scoring.

“I want to be more ruthless. To reach the level of the best wingers in the world, I need to improve my goal tally and assists,” he stated.

“While I contribute significantly to the team in other ways, as a winger, scoring goals is essential. If I could find the back of the net every game, I would.”

“I’m aware of where I am now, and I’m determined to take that next step.”
