Despite attending Norway’s impressive victory over Israel on Saturday, Martin Odegaard was unable to partake in the post-match festivities due to his injury.
As previously reported, Martin Odegaard was present in the stands during Norway’s World Cup qualifying match against Israel on Saturday.
Though sidelined by injury for the October internationals, Odegaard chose to support his national team, and he undoubtedly enjoyed the action on the field this weekend.
Despite missing a first-half penalty (even after a retake), Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick and Israel conceded two own goals, leading Norway to a dominant 5-0 victory.
Norway has yet to secure qualification for the World Cup, but their substantial +26 goal difference offers them a significant advantage compared to Italy’s +7. They are currently six points ahead of Italy, although they have played one additional match.
A win against Estonia at home on November 13th would put them in a strong position, allowing them to potentially withstand a loss to Italy on the final day—as long as Italy wins their other two matches.
At minimum, Norway has guaranteed a place in the play-offs, with third-placed Israel unable to overtake them. Therefore, there was reason to celebrate after Saturday’s match.
Odegaard did join his teammates in the dressing room for the celebrations, but he was spotted sitting down while his teammates rejoiced. It was clear he wanted to avoid any risk to his knee following the recent injury.
