OneFootball x Skepsis and…

In our collaboration series with Shoot Music, OneFootball is diving into the world of football and music by chatting with artists about their passion for the sport. Over the coming weeks, the focus will be on the World Cup.

This week, we feature England supporters Skepsis and Tony Perry.

How excited are you for the World Cup?

Skepsis: I’m absolutely thrilled for the World Cup! There’s nothing quite like it—everyone in the country comes together, pubs are full, and all it takes is one positive result for hope to surge back. But as an England fan, it’s a mix of excitement and the potential for heartbreak.

Tony Perry: I’m buzzing! Even though the atmosphere might feel different in Qatar, once that opening ceremony kicks off and we see fans rallying behind their nations, it’s going to be epic.

What’s your favorite World Cup memory as an England fan?

Skepsis: My top memory has to be England’s incredible run in 2018 during the Russia World Cup. The vibe across the UK was electric. Winning that penalty shootout against Colombia felt like a huge weight had been lifted, and the joy after Kieran Trippier scored from a free kick against Croatia is unforgettable.

Tony: More recently, Trippier’s free kick against Croatia was a peak moment for England fans. I also had the chance to DJ during the matches in Qatar, making it even more special when we beat Wales. I still remember Michael Owen’s stunning goal against Argentina in 1998. Watching it even now, I think, “Wow, a teenager scored that for us.” It was magical.

How do you rate England’s chances this year?

Skepsis: I have a lot of faith in England’s chances this year. On paper, the squad is outstanding, especially going forward, and there’s genuine depth. The big concern is whether they can manage pressure in crucial moments against top teams. As a Manchester United fan, I’m used to disappointment, so I keep my expectations in check.

Tony: I’m fully trusting Thomas Tuchel’s strategy. Given that players are coming off a long season and dealing with the heat, travel, and pitch conditions, tactical awareness is crucial. With Tuchel in charge, I believe we can reach the semi-finals.

If England has a successful run this year, which player do you think will be essential to that success?

Skepsis: For England to excel, I believe Jude Bellingham will be pivotal. He possesses the unique ability to dominate important matches with both skill and charisma. He thrives under pressure rather than flinching from it.

Tony: I think Declan Rice will be crucial for us in midfield. We have lots of attacking talent, but if there’s a weakness in our lineup, it’s likely at the back. Declan’s defensive skills were vital for Arsenal winning the league, and I expect him to provide similar strength for England.

Who do you think will win the World Cup and why?

Skepsis: I’m backing Spain to take the trophy. Their blend of technical skill, youthful talent, and experience, along with their confidence and control, positions them well for success. Teams that can maintain possession and remain composed under pressure usually go far in tournament play.

Tony: I agree with Skepsis; Spain is incredibly tactically astute. Even though they may lack an elite striker, their collective strength is impressive. I anticipated Argentina would win last time, but this year, I’m feeling strongly about the Spanish team!
