Lorenzo Pellegrini expressed his joy as both a player and a fan with Gian Piero Gasperini at the helm of Roma, while praising Artem Dovbyk’s performance following their victory over Glasgow Rangers.

After experiencing a series of disappointing defeats against Lille and Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League, as well as Inter and Milan in Serie A, the Giallorossi felt the pressure mounting.

However, they managed to secure a surprisingly comfortable 2-0 win at Ibrox, with Matias Soulé scoring from a corner and Pellegrini converting from a Dovbyk assist just before half-time.

“It was crucial to get the win today and make up for lost ground, but despite what some might think, this match was not straightforward,” Pellegrini remarked during an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“Our goal was to establish some consistency, and while we can certainly improve, we are heading in the right direction.”

Roma began the season strongly under Gasperini but experienced a few setbacks, particularly in finding the back of the net. Pellegrini commented, “Although it’s still early in the season, we should recognize the steady improvement of our team. We achieved results earlier, but without the same drive and visible growth we demonstrated today.”

“The focus now is to keep progressing, and soon everyone will see our true potential.”

Pellegrini, who began the season on the transfer market after being informed that his contract would not be renewed, has since found his footing within the team. “It was tough at first as I was dealing with an injury and lacked match fitness, but since the derby, I’ve maintained the consistency I desired.”

“Now, whether I come off the bench or start, I feel physically fit. I’m really happy because this summer was challenging psychologically as well.”

“The coach is quite demanding, yet he knows how to motivate us effectively. As both a player and a supporter, I’m thrilled that he is leading Roma.”

Gasperini’s focus on attacking play has shown noticeable progress, as Pellegrini recognized in Dovbyk’s assist: “We are improving our communication. Artem made some great runs to shake off his defenders today, movements that he might not have attempted before. If he continues to do this, we can position him better on the field.”

“It’s a matter of practice, as decisions have to be made in a snap on the pitch, but we are all getting better.”
