Phil Foden is focused on regaining his top form and reestablishing his place at Manchester City after experiencing limited playing time.

The England midfielder has had restricted chances in 2026, not finishing a full match since City’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League on January 4.

The 25-year-old has started only eight of City’s last 20 matches, mostly coming off the bench under Pep Guardiola. His latest substitution appearance was during the closing moments of Sunday’s Carabao Cup win over Arsenal.

This is a stark contrast to his earlier season performance, where he scored eight goals in nine games during November and December.

Recognizing the difficulties, Foden remarked, “Football can be unpredictable. There are highs and lows, and sometimes you can’t be at your best, and that’s just how it goes.”

He continued, “It’s all about how you bounce back. I’m focused on keeping my head down, training as hard as I can each day, and I hope to return after the internationals sharper and ready for more playing time, back to where I started the season.”

Foden has been named in the England squad for upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, with hopes of making Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad this summer.

He expressed his excitement about the selection, stating, “Getting called up for your country is the greatest feeling as a footballer. I’m thrilled to be chosen and can’t wait to join the team for training.”

Foden will be aiming to increase his total of four goals in 47 caps for England in the coming days.
