Mauricio Pochettino, the former manager of Tottenham, expressed his sorrow over the club’s struggles as they aim to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Pochettino led Spurs from 2014 to 2019, guiding the team to the Champions League final before being dismissed following a slow start to the subsequent season.
Tottenham currently sits in 18th place in the standings, just two points adrift of safety with four matches remaining.
“I truly love Tottenham,” Pochettino shared on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast. “It will always be an important part of my life as a coach and personally.” He added, “It’s really sad because I know how much the people within the club and the fans are suffering. It’s hard to accept.”
After leaving Tottenham, Pochettino took the reins at Paris St-Germain and is now set to lead the co-hosts USA in this summer’s World Cup.
His name has consistently surfaced in connection with a return to north London. “One day, yes,” he remarked. “I really like England. I believe that my human profile and coaching style align well with the Premier League.”
Tottenham’s recent victory against relegation-bound Wolves marked their first league win this year. They will face fifth-placed Aston Villa next Sunday.
The team will be without midfielder Xavi Simons, who will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury sustained against Wolves, while striker Dominic Solanke also picked up an injury.
