PSG Receives Significant…

The future of Ibrahima Konaté at Liverpool remains uncertain, with both PSG and Real Madrid reportedly showing interest in the defender. As 2026 approaches, Konaté is in the final months of his contract and will become a free agent in June.

So far, Liverpool has not managed to secure him on a new contract, which has led to increased transfer speculation. Starting January 1, Konaté will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract with other clubs.

According to Foot Mercato, several high-profile European clubs, including PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, have been monitoring his situation. Liverpool chose to hold onto him last summer instead of considering offers, but The Athletic recently noted that Real Madrid’s long-term interest may be fading due to some inconsistent performances from Konaté.

TEAMtalk reports, sources indicate that the situation regarding Konaté at Liverpool remains unresolved. Transfer insider Dean Jones notes that the club is still working towards an extension and aims to bring in a center-back to provide competition rather than a replacement.

“The goal has been to secure a deal by the New Year, but it doesn’t appear to be viewed as a hard deadline,” Jones shared with TEAMtalk.

“The intention is to avoid a prolonged situation similar to what happened with Trent Alexander-Arnold, where he leaves after dragging on negotiations. The challenge Liverpool faces is that if Konaté departs, they will actually need to make two new center-back signings.

“They are already looking for a new player—not to replace Konaté but to complement him. When considering players like Marc Guehi or Nico Schlotterbeck, the focus is on adding competition and depth to the squad. It’s more manageable for Liverpool to keep Konaté and offer him a solid deal than to seek a replacement and integrate yet another new player into the team.”
