The Wales international is speaking about his exit from the Liga MX team for the first time, stating that he “had no choice but to return home to Wales.”

In an Instagram post, the 34-year-old thanked the coaching and medical staff for their support during a “challenging time with injuries.” He emphasized that he was “match fit” and eager to contribute to the Pumas when his contract was unexpectedly terminated.
The former Arsenal midfielder played in only six matches for the Mexican side after joining on a short-term deal in July, marking him as the first prominent British player in Liga MX.
Ramsey had a two-month wait before making his debut for the Mexico City club due to a hamstring injury he sustained during a match against Luton on March 11.

He accumulated a total of 235 minutes on the field, scoring once in a 1-0 victory against Atlas on August 31.
During his time in Mexico, Ramsey and his family faced the emotional ordeal of their dog, Halo, going missing—an event they say will continue to “haunt” them.
Since returning to Wales, the midfielder has been training at the Football Association of Wales headquarters near Cardiff and was present in the dugout when Wales secured a resounding 7-1 win over North Macedonia in a recent World Cup qualifier.
In his Instagram message, Ramsey expressed gratitude to “the Mexican people for their warmth and hospitality, making me and my family feel so welcome in Mexico City.”

He stated, “I also want to extend a sincere thanks to the manager, coaching staff, and especially the medical team for supporting me during a tough period with injuries. Thanks to their assistance and my hard work, I felt prepared and match fit for the remaining games, and I was looking forward to performing well for the Pumas.”
Unfortunately, my contract was terminated unexpectedly, which was disappointing, leading me to return to Wales.”
“Thank you once again for the support throughout our time in Mexico. It’s a beautiful country, and we will certainly come back to visit in the future.”
