Real Madrid has faced a challenging season, both on and off the pitch. A chaotic dressing room and an unstable managerial situation have resulted in the club’s second consecutive season without securing a major trophy.
Changes are already in motion, with Jose Mourinho set to replace Alvaro Arbeloa in the upcoming week following the conclusion of the season.

However, the situation could have unfolded quite differently for Real Madrid, as earlier in the season, they had different intentions in mind.
Real Madrid Made a Bid for Enzo Maresca
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Real Madrid approached Enzo Maresca for the managerial role right after dismissing Xabi Alonso in January.

The 46-year-old was dismissed at Chelsea at the beginning of the year, despite leading the club to victories in the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup the previous year.
Real Madrid attempted to secure the former Chelsea boss by reaching out to superagent Jorge Mendes, but the move was unsuccessful.

Madrid wasn’t the only club interested in Maresca; Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan also expressed interest in the Italian manager.
However, none of these pursuits resulted in a move, as Maresca had always aimed to take over from Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, a position he is now about to assume.
In fact, the manager has agreed to a three-year deal with the Premier League club and will succeed his mentor at the Etihad Stadium this summer.

While the talks with Mendes regarding Maresca did not succeed, Real Madrid has successfully negotiated for Mourinho’s return through the same superagent.

The Portuguese manager is expected to leave Benfica shortly and rejoin Real Madrid on a two-year contract lasting until the summer of 2028.
An official announcement could be made soon, depending on the situation surrounding the presidential elections.
